There is a place of enchanting beauty, of undiscovered roads, sand dunes and salty caverns. An ancient place formed by tonnes of marine life falling to the sea floor where unique caves overflow with land and sea fossils formed over 500,000 years ago.
This place is ready for you to discover, to traverse roads and uncover the producers who work the rich terra rossa soil and sustainably harvest the bountiful oceans. The kind of place you establish your own path in; the kind of place you truly connect with.
At 21,406 km2 the Limestone Coast covers an area equivalent to a small country. The region situated between the culturally rich cities of Melbourne and Adelaide; stretches from the wildlife rich saltwater wetlands of the Coorong to the Victorian border.
When it comes to grapes; geography, geology and climate are crucial to producing the quality and complexity needed for outstanding wines. The alluvial soil of the Limestone Coast sits atop 26 million year old limestone caverns providing excellent drainage.
This ancient foundation delivers an abundance of the purest quality water which brings life and sustenance to this remote and bountiful region.
The astonishing geographical diversity of the region creates six distinct micro pockets, each with a unique combination of elements producing distinctive wines. From the cool climate of Mt Gambier producing restraint and elegance, to the maritime air of Robe and Mt Benson whose fruit bursts from the glass. Contrast this with the dense, terra rossa soil of the Coonawarra where richness reigns and the sun baked flavours of Wrattonbully with its bold and intense flavours.
A viticultural heritage both steeped in tradition but unbound by it, the pioneering spirit is alive and well in the great people that call The Limestone Coast home. Producing classic varietal selection, you will undoubtedly find both the satisfyingly familiar and the extraordinary different when you begin to explore the bounty from this far flung coast.
This is our home, established 26million years ago, but our story has only just began.
